Role Creative Director

The problem

Google needed a project that showcased the full technical capabilities of the Assistant technology.

The insight

Play and discovery are at the heart of Google’s brand, and are especially important for the families who have a Google Home in their house.

The response

We developed Safari Mixer, a fun experience that let users create animal mash-ups just by talking to their Google Homes. With a few words, they could discover a whole new species with a new name, body and sounds.

Underneath the playful tone and art direction, the tech used natural language recognition, sound blending, on-the-fly animation creation and surface switching between voice and screen to showcase the power of Google Assistant in an unexpected, talkable way.

The results

Safari Mixer was chosen as one of three experiences to be part of Google's Assistant showcase at Cannes and SXSW.

24,000 unique animals created, including one by Matthew McConaughey.

Our open-source code has been adopted and used by developers globally.

My role

Creative direction of UX/UI, design, audio and conversational architecture.

Coordinating with Google Conversational Design technical teams to build out the new features that powered the experience.

Overseeing delivery of all promotional assets.

Developing supporting PR campaign.
